For week two of Go Green Festival join artists Hayley Suviste and Lizzie King for a guided sound walk along the River Irwell in Peel Park.
During this soundwalk, we will slow down and listen closely to the river and its surroundings, using different recording methods to explore often-hidden layers of sound, including the river’s underwater world. The walk will end with a relaxed conversation over hot drinks back at the New Adelphi Exhibition Gallery about what we noticed, heard, and experienced.
This event is free, but ticketed so you must book your free tickets in advance as spaces are limited.
For the soundwalk guests will meet at 12:30 at the New Adelphi Exhibition Gallery, before walking down to the river to commence the sound walk. We will then return to the gallery to talk about our findings over hot drinks!
The walk builds on approaches developed through The River Has Many Lives, an audio-visual artwork currently showing as part of the Carry the Clouds Away exhibition which explores the varied ways in which we find inspiration, connection, and solace in places of nature.
This walk is ran as part of Go Green week festival with the University of Salford Sustainability team!

The walk will start at the gallery 12:30pm, once attendees have arrived we will head to the River Irwell through Peel Park, then you will be guided through the sound walk along the path of the Irwell. Once we have finished the sound walk we will head back to the gallery for hot drinks and a chat.
If you need to leave the walk early just let the guides and facilitators know and make sure to hand all equipment back before leaving.
Access:
- Free to attend
- Seating provided on return to the gallery space, no seats avaliable during the time of the walk
- Wheelchair accessible: please be aware that although both park and gallery are accessible via wheelchair we will be walking for over an hour before returning to the gallery space.
- Come alone or with friends
- Staff available throughout
- Equipment provided
- All welcome but young people MUST be supervised
- Sensory environment: Gallery is well lit, no noise, may get busy at times (max 20 people) / Walk conditions in Peel Park are liable to change as it is a public area.
- Time out: Seating, quiet space, toilets, water refill and cafe nearby on return to the gallery but not throughout the duration of the walk
