Immersive Art Installation: Simon Connor and Andrew Brooks

University of Salford Art Collection in partnership with From The Other

The University of Salford is excited to announce that it is partnering once again with Sounds from the Other City Festival!

We will be presenting a brand new, hot off the press art installation at the New Adelphi Band Room: From the Edges: Salford’s Hidden Landscapes – a collaboration between composer and sound artist Simon Connor, and photographer, artist and filmmaker Andrew Brooks.

This immersive audiovisual installation explores the green spaces and edgelands of Salford; allowing visitors a meditative experience of these cherished yet often overlooked landscapes that exist alongside the urban environment.

Using multi-camera systems and spatial field recording techniques, Simon Connor and Andrew Brooks have been hard at work illuminating the shifting spaces where the city of Salford meets its green and wild landscapes, giving audiences the opportunity to dive into the vibrant world of Salford’s woodlands, waterways, routes and industrial ruins.

The soundtrack of From the Edges is shaped directly by sounds recorded at these green spaces, blending environmental audio with instrumental composition to create a richly textured sonic landscape.

Enveloped in this 360-degree soundscape, visitors move through From the Edges through a variety of different visual perspectives. The installation unfolds at an unhurried pace, encouraging deep listening and attentive looking.

Audiences will experience From the Edges in small groups within the University of Salford’s New Adelphi recording studios, presented via an immersive sound system and multi-screen display.

From the Edges makes up part of Sounds from the Other City’s festival programme. To attend a viewing of From the Edges, visitors must be Sounds From the Other City ticket holders. Viewing slots can be booked at the wristband exchange during the festival on a first come first serve basis.

Tickets to the festival can be purchased here.
